You guys. I have been lusting after this box ever since I first laid eyes on Book Roast‘s Unboxing Videos. And you know what children, if you dream real hard then sometimes they come true.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this box subscription, they are a Poland based company that sell monthly boxes as well as Harry Potter merchandise. You can buy the boxes either once a month (one off purchases), 3 months in advance (3 month subscription), or 12 months in advance (1 Year subscription). Upon ordering you choose which House you are in for any House Specific items that may be in the box, and there is a ‘neutral’ house option which means you will get random house items.
Although each box does have a loose theme, we do not know the theme in advance. However after a couple of items it was very clear that this box was an Order of the Phoenix themed box.
This is my first ever Gobstone Alley box and, being a major Harry Potter fan, I was so hecka excited to receive this box. It did not disappoint. Take a look at what we got inside.
Order of the Phoenix Tshirt
In the Gobstone Alley box you will always receive a ‘wearable’ item and it is more often than not a t-shirt. Upon ordering you are asked to select your size (S,M,L,XL) and style (Ladies Fitted/Unisex). I am a size 8/10 and I went for a Ladies Fitted Small.
I LOVE the design on this Tshirt. I am so pumped to be a member of The Order of the Phoenix and I will keep your secrets safe baby. This was probably the item I was most worried about because I can be very picky with my novelty tshirts, but I think the design is gorgeous and understated whilst still being a fantastic Harry Potter reference. Such a beautiful rich burgundy colour. The fabric is SO SOFT and stretchy and it fits great. I was worried it might be tight, and although it is body hugging it isn’t uncomfortable in the slightest. I may order different sizes and styles in future boxes to get an array of different fits.
Prefect’s Bathroom Bath Salt
Next we have some luxurious bath salts in a really decent sized jar. Not only is the jar decently sized but it is also made out proper brown glass, so it feels expensive and a real treat. The scent is heavily rosey and it reminds me of Turkish delight. According to the Educational Decree slapped on the front, this is Umbridge’s favourite way to unwind after a long day of being a bitch.
“Sherbert Lemon” Incendio Candle
Gobstone Alley is also the creator of ‘Incendio Candles’ and they have a wide array of scents to choose from on their website from chocolate frogs to Hogwarts Library. This month with got ‘Sherbert Lemon’ which is of course dearest Dumbledore’s favourite sweet. It’s a vibrant yellow and can you guess what it smells like? LEMON? Correct. Although it also has a hint of Honeysuckle and isn’t at all overpowering. Plus the size of this candle is great for a Subscription Box. It bares noting that both the candle and the Baths salts came protected in little cardboard sleeves as Gobstone Alley is making some fantastic steps to reduce their use of plastic packaging – brava.
DA Propaganda Postcard and Umbridge’s Pocket Mirror
Here is the postcard that none of us knew we needed until now. Incase it isn’t too clear in the picture or you believe your eyes are deceiving you, what we have here is a picture of Umbridge with the slogan “Trust no bitch” plastered across her face. I laughed when I saw this. This is truly a motto to live by. Another Umbridge item is the cutesy-wutesy little pocket mirror featuring one of her beloved kitten designs. The writting on it says “I will have order”. I love a little Juxataposition, don’t you?
Enchanted Wooden Coaster
The next item is so damn cool. It’s a wooden coaster featuring the design of the secret Galleons that the DA members used to carry to communicate the meeting times and dates. This coaster is a good two inches thick and literally looks like it’s been sawn straight off a tree. The bark is still present around the outside, and the scorched design is marvellous. I don’t think I will be using this as a coaster. This is going on display on my bookshelves.
Cosy Elves’ Tea
As well as always getting a wearable and a candle, we always receive a bag of Cosy Elves’ Tea. This months Tea is entitled ‘Umbridge’s Pink Tea’ and is a blend of organic black tea, rose petals, wild strawberries, vanilla and sugar hearts to ‘sweeten your detention’. It smells sickly sweet but also divine, I cannot wait to brew a cup next time I need to do some reflecting on my terrible habit of lying about the return of Lord Voldemort.
Harry Potter Trading Cards
This trading game used to be huge when Harry Potter first came out, but faded into the mists of time as the years went by. Gobstone Alley is trying to bring it back in, so every month we receive a little package of trading cards. The full rules of the game are on their website including more card packs to purchase. Perhaps after a couple more boxes I’ll have enough to start figuring out how to play. The cards come in individual little plastic covers to keep them safe and clean – how thoughtful.
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and Deathly Hallows Pin
In every box I think you are guaranteed two or up-to-two Licensed Harry Potter items. This month those items were Deathly Hallows Pin and a packet of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. The Deathly Hallows Pin is a tad chunky for my personal preference, and doesn’t really fit with the theme of the box. But it is still a cool addition to my minuscule but slowly growing pin collection. I got way too excited when I saw the beans. However I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll be eating them as I really do not fancy coming across the ‘vomit’ flavoured one advertised on the side of the box. Although I am mildly interested in the ‘grass’ flavoured one…
Dragon’s Blood Vial
Previous boxes have included potions vials and we got one in this box too! Dragon’s Blood. Totally awesome dude. You cannot drink or smell this item, it exists purely for aesthetic reasons. I’m hoping there will be more of these to come because I would like to open up my own Labratory. Or an Apothecary. I dunno. Something cool like that.
Finally, each month a Chocolate Frog style Wizarding Card. This month we got Severus Snape. I am on the side of people who love ol’ Snivellus so I’m happy that I’ve got a little character card of his. The back of the card has some great character information. I’m looking forward to seeing who we get next month and creating a little collection of characters!
This has to be, hands down, the best Subscription box I’ve ever gotten. Opening it was pure joy, I felt like a little kid at Christmas. The attention to detail is phenomenal, they have made sure every single thing is authentic. The quality of the products is excellent, and amount you get for the price of the box is incredible. The style is very ‘etsy’ like and apart from the licensed products everything is originally designed. The spoiler card/list of included items even came as an ‘Educational Decree’, and although there were no house specific items in this box I still opened the box to the sight of Ravenclaw blue tissue paper. #Ravenclawpride
Next month is going to be so exciting, because I am such a lucky duck to be receiving not only the June Flying Parcel box, but the Special Edition One-Year anniversary box. I CAN NOT cope with the excitement!
